Where in Norfolk to base a group
For a group, the western end of the North Norfolk coast has the deepest choice of big houses. Burnham Market and Brancaster are the smart, foodie end of it, farm shops and good pubs, mussels and oysters landed just up the road, with Holkham's vast beach a short drive along. Wells-next-the-Sea, with its harbour, beach huts and pinewoods, is the family favourite, and Thornham, Holme and Old Hunstanton carry the same run of marsh and sand west towards the Wash. East of there the coast keeps going through Blakeney and Cley, good for seals and birds, then on to Cromer and Sheringham. Inland, Holt is a handsome Georgian market town for a day out, and a scattering of the larger halls sit out in the quieter country away from the sea, a bit further from the coast but with more room to spread into. For most groups the western coast is the easy call, with the beaches, the food and the coast path packed into one short stretch.
Large holiday homes on the North Norfolk coast
On this coast the beach does most of the work. Most of these houses are within a walk or a short drive of the sand, and North Norfolk sand comes at scale: Holkham and Brancaster run for miles at low tide, wide enough to lose the children for an afternoon and still get them back. It is quiet, working coast, more samphire and oystercatchers than deckchairs, and it takes dogs about as readily as people, which is why so many groups bring one. A few houses sit back from the water, but on a coast this size you would have to work at ending up far from a beach.
Large holiday homes in Norfolk with an indoor swimming pool
A pool you can use whatever the sky is doing earns its keep on a group trip, and a handful of the larger Norfolk houses have an indoor one. It gives you a wet afternoon the children will vanish into, and a swim that does not depend on the North Sea being in a kind mood. There are not many, so the choice is narrower than for, say, a hot tub, but if a pool is the thing that tips the group into a yes, filter for it and see what comes up for your dates.
Groups of cottages in Norfolk
Some Norfolk groups are simply too big for a single front door, and a few places here are built for exactly that. The larger halls often come with an annexe, a barn or a cottage next door as part of the let, so you can add beds to the main house and keep everyone on one patch of ground rather than spread around the county. You book each part on its own listing, so it lands as a few separate bookings, but the group still wakes up in the same place. The biggest of them run up into the low thirties. If a single roof would suit you better, start with the houses that sleep around 12, or the handful that take 20.
