Thorpe Arnold

Thorpe Arnold is a detached house on the Yarmer Estate in Thurlestone, right next to the ninth green of the golf course, with long views over the coast and out to sea. Cowrie beach is about five minutes' walk, Thurlestone Sands about ten, and the Village Inn and the shop and post office are around 400 metres away.

Inside, it's two self-contained houses, Major and Minor, joined through a utility room. Major's living room has polished wooden floors, window seats and an open fire, and its dining room takes an extra trellis table so everyone can eat together. There's a second place to eat in the open-plan kitchen, with doors out to a terrace and steps down to the lawn. Minor has two of its bedrooms on the ground floor and its living room upstairs: an open-plan room with big sofas, a table for eight and a balcony with steps down to the garden.

Lawned gardens run round the front and back. Thurlestone takes its name from Thurlestone Rock, the 'pierced rock' just offshore, and has a pub, a shop and post office, two golf courses, a tennis club and a hotel. Bantham's surf beach and Hope Cove are both a short walk away, Kingsbridge is about ten minutes' drive and Salcombe fifteen.
