About this property
Kingham Retreat is five houses in the grounds of Kingham Lodge, booked together for up to 26, sharing the estate's five acres of gardens, a tennis court, croquet, an indoor heated pool and a Turkish hammam. Each house has its own kitchen and sitting room, so there's room to be apart as well as together.
The houses are quite different in age and feel. Lodge Cottage, parts of which go back more than 300 years, has oak floors, an open fire, a south-facing conservatory off the kitchen and a cottage garden with a swing.
Berry Pen sits in Kingham Lodge's gravel courtyard. Its ground floor is one open-plan room with an open fire, and French doors lead out to a south-facing garden terraced with Cotswold stone walls.
Kite's Gate and Ryeworth were built in 2011 but kept traditional touches: Kite's Gate has oak floors, antique furniture and a top-floor twin with views across the Cotswold countryside. Ryeworth has flagstone floors, a four-oven Aga, the biggest table, seating ten, and a play room on the lower ground floor with a 1950s doll's house.
The Loft, at the top of an outside stone staircase, is a light, beamed apartment with oak floors, arts and crafts furniture and a Juliet balcony that looks into the tree canopy.
The village's two pubs, the Kingham Plough and the Wild Rabbit, are both within walking distance, the nearer about five minutes away. Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Moreton-in-Marsh are all within about ten minutes' drive, and Oxford is 28 minutes by train.
